Arabic Intensive

Training Women in the Foundations of Classical Arabic

This 12-week intensive is designed for students seeking a serious and structured introduction to Qur’anic Arabic within a shorter academic timeframe.

Students will engage with:

  • Foundational Arabic grammar and sentence structures

  • Guided analysis of Qur’anic verses from the earliest stages

  • Vocabulary development and comprehension skills

  • Structured Arabic speaking practice (hiwār)

  • Recognition of recurring Qur’anic linguistic patterns

  • The world of nouns and noun-based structures;forming a major gateway into understanding Qur’anic Arabic

A distinctive feature of the program is its integration of Arabic theory directly with Qur’anic application, allowing students to immediately recognise grammar concepts within the Qur’an itself rather than studying rules in isolation.

The program also incorporates structured speaking practice (hiwār); an area often underdeveloped in many Arabic programs despite its importance in building genuine language familiarity and confidence.

Due to the accelerated nature of the course, content is covered more rapidly and with less extensive practice than a full-year pathway. However, students will still engage in active application, guided exercises, and structured speaking practice throughout the program.

Program Outcomes

By the end of the program, students will be expected to:

  • Develop foundational understanding of core Arabic grammatical structures

  • Build familiarity with major noun-based constructions commonly found in Qur’anic Arabic

  • Recognise and analyse grammatical patterns within Qur’anic verses

  • Understand how Arabic sentences function beyond simple word-for-word translation

  • Engage in guided Arabic speaking practice (hiwār) using structured conversational patterns

  • Develop increased confidence reading and interacting with Arabic texts

  • Build readiness for further Arabic or Islamic studies pathways

Entry Requirements

Students must already be able to read Arabic comfortably and keep pace with classroom instruction, board work, copying, and exercises.

This program is not suitable for complete beginners to Arabic reading or script.

Study Expectations

Although delivered part-time, this is still an academically focused intensive.

Students should be prepared to commit to:

  • Weekly onsite attendance

  • Consistent revision between classes

  • Ongoing memorisation, review, and practice exercises

  • Active classroom participation

Due to the cumulative nature of language acquisition, regular attendance is strongly encouraged.
